Police and Fire Services

In 2020, the City purchased body cameras for all patrol officers and updated police department policies.

In 2021, the City hired a new police chief, replacing a chief who had served for 31 years.

The City restructured and upgraded its Community Service Officer (CSO) program. CSOs, who are not armed, support the police department by assisting with parking enforcement, traffic control, ordinance violation enforcement, and regular vehicle and equipment maintenance.

The police department published an online form for complaints or commendations.

The fire department moved a crew into the Milwaukee fire station at 100 N. 64th Street. This reduces the WFD’s response times in southeastern Wauwatosa and allowed Milwaukee to reopen another fire station.

The City purchased a new fire truck and a rescue vehicle for joint use by the police and fire departments during mass shootings and other emergencies.

Since 2021, we have provided recruitment bonuses for police officers to fill workforce shortages during a time when all departments in America are faced with recruitment challenges.
