In a community survey completed in 2019, a national research firm found that 97% of residents were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with Wauwatosa as a place to live.
Community satisfaction remains high. In 2016, we conducted a city-wide “Housing Study & Needs Analysis.” An update in 2023 revealed that:
- Wauwatosa’s population, 58,676 in 1970, declined for decades. Now it is growing again. 58% of that growth has occurred since 2016.
- Average household size has increased.
- Before, the City’s population was aging. Now it is getting younger, unlike Wisconsin as a whole.
- Wauwatosa residents are increasingly highly educated, and median household incomes are rising.
- Wauwatosa is becoming more racially and ethnically diverse.
- Home values are increasing rapidly, faster than in Brookfield.
More than ever, Wauwatosa is a place where people – especially young families – want to live.
